We have worked very hard to create a safe environment for everyone – and also importantly one where you can relax and still enjoy the pleasures of dining out or a getaway break.
Remember we are also we are very dog friendly, and welcome dogs in some of our Bedrooms and public areas, including The Melville and Lounge Bar. Please note: An additional charge of £10 per dog per night is levied for an overnight stay.

Welcome to Iain Macdonald – Head Chef
A big welcome to our own home-grown talent Iain Macdonald, as he takes up the reigns of The Royal as Head Chef!
Comrie lad Iain joined the Royal team as a kitchen porter some 15 years ago, and soon took a keen interest in kitchen operations and developed his love and passion for cooking and food. He served his apprenticeship at the Royal whilst studying at Perth College, and expanded his culinary skills, eventually becoming Sous Chef at the Hotel.
After leaving the Royal Iain went on to further his knowledge and understanding of the catering industry working with Comrie based Wilde Thyme – where he worked with some incredibly talented chefs who helped shape and develop him into the chef he is today. In 2016 Iain took on the role of Sous Chef at Carlowrie Castle, eventually becoming head chef responsible for creating menus for this prestigious leading events venue. Iain is passionate about using local and seasonal produce and commented “Scotland has no end of amazing produce and I particularly love cooking Scottish seafood and game dishes”. He continued “I’m excited to be back at the Royal Hotel and looking forward to cooking for all our guests and clients.”
We are delighted that Iain has returned to his roots and look forward with excitement as he takes the Royal onto the next chapter. Iain has introduced some delicious new dishes and light bites on The Melville Menu’s in the past few weeks. Whilst the Brasserie restaurant in the Hotel has recently been restyled by Fiona Denholm Interiors into The Garden Room offering a smart, yet relaxed dining space and Iain has great plans and ambitions to develop The Garden Room’s menus with fine dining specialties. These dishes will eventually form the basis of his tasting menus for the eagerly awaited new fine dining restaurant at the Hotel – due to launch in Spring 2022.

The Garden Room @theroyal… our light, airy, relaxed styled conservatory dining area.
Formally the Brasserie restaurant in the Hotel this lovely light space has been newly restyled by Fiona Denholm Interiors to create a relaxed, smart dining venue. Currently serving the Hotel’s brasserie style menu, with daily changing specials, all with locally sourced produce and ingredients – this is a lovely spot to meet for lunch or dinner. Open everyday of the week for lunch and dinner.
